John Abernethy FRS (3 April 1764 – 20 April 1831) was an English surgeon. He is popularly remembered today for having given his name to the Abernethy biscuit, a coarse-meal baked good meant to aid digestion.

Foi também tido como um grande Sábio e professor do seu tempo. Cirurgião muito hábil e homem de muito espírito, foi o primeiro que praticou a operação da ligadura da artéria ilíaca externa em certos casos de aneurisma. Publicou Tratados de anatomia, de cirurgia e de patologia em 1828, e Tratado teórico e pratico de cirurgia em 1830. Foi eleito membro da Royal Society em 1796. (pt)

Uczęszczał na wykłady z anatomii sir Williama Blizarda w szpitalu londyńskim i asystował mu przy pokazach praktycznych. Brał także udział w zajęciach prowadzonych przez Percivalla Potta w szpitalu św. Bartłomieja jak również był słuchaczem Johna Huntera (chirurga).
