Jean Felix Piccard (January 28, 1884 in Basel, Switzerland – January 28, 1963 in Minneapolis, Minnesota), also known as Jean Piccard, was a Swiss-born American chemist, engineer, professor and high-altitude balloonist. He invented clustered high-altitude balloons, and with his wife Jeannette, the plastic balloon. Piccard's inventions and co-inventions are used in balloon flight, aircraft and spacecraft.

Il est le fils de Jules Piccard - Haltenhoss (1841-1933) et le frère jumeau d'Auguste Piccard (1884-1962). Jean Piccard est un pionnier des vols stratosphériques (tout comme son frère Auguste) et de la recherche sur les rayons cosmiques. Hij onderzocht geclusterde hoogteballons, en was samen met zijn echtgenote Jeannette de uitvinder van de plastic ballon. Zijn uitvindingen en bijdragen aan uitvindingen worden gebruikt in de ballonvaart, de luchtvaart en de ruimtevaart. Hij vond o.a. een manier om de temperatuur te regelen binnen de capsule die onder een ballon hangt. De capsule had daartoe twee kleuren, zwart en wit. Met een ventilator in de capsule werd langs de zwarte / witte wanden lucht geblazen om de temperatuur te doen stijgen / dalen. (nl)
