Ioannis Kakridis (Greek: Ιωάννης Κακριδής) (17 November 1901 – 20 March 1992) was a Greek classical scholar and was one of the leading scholars of Homeric Poetry in the twentieth century. He was born in Athens in 1901 and received his PhD at the University of Athens. He went on to become a professor at the universities of Athens, Thessaloniki, Tübingen, Stockholm, Lund and Uppsala. Kakridis was a Homer scholar and one of the most important classicists of twentieth-century Greece. He was also an early and staunch advocate of the adoption of the monotonic system in the Greek language. Σπούδασε φιλολογία στα Πανεπιστήμια Αθηνών, Βερολίνου, Βιέννης και Λειψίας. Μετά την επιστροφή του στην Ελλάδα εργάστηκε ως προγυμναστής φιλολογικών μαθημάτων. Έλαβε το διδακτορικό του από το Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών το 1925. Διετέλεσε υφηγητής από το 1930 ως το 1939 και έκτακτος καθηγητής στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης, από το 1939 ως το 1945 τακτικός καθηγητής του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών και από το 1948 ως το 1968 τακτικός καθηγητής του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης. Il enseigna à l’Université d’Athènes comme assistant (1930-1939) puis professeur (1939-1945), à l’Université de Stockholm (1947), à l’Université de Thessalonique (1948-1968 ; il en devient même recteur), à l’Université de Tübingen, à l’Université de Lund et à l’Université d’Uppsala. Il se fit l’avocat du monotonisme dans la grande controverse linguistique qui sévit en Grèce au XXe siècle. Il fut même dénoncé en 1941 par sa faculté pour avoir republié un cours sous forme monotonique, contre la langue officiellement en vigueur ; suspendu au terme de ce que l’on appela alors le « Procès des accents », il démissionna de l’Université. Parmi une bibliographie pléthorique (près de 40 livres et 200 articles), citons une traduction d’Homère en grec moderne, en collaboration avec Níkos Kazantzákis (1971) et une encyclopédie de mythologie grecque en cinq volumes.
