- The history of chocolate in Spain is part of the culinary history of Spain as understood since the 16th century, when the colonisation of the Americas began and the cocoa plant was discovered in regions of Mesoamerica, until the present. After the conquest of Mexico, cocoa as a commodity travelled by boat from the port of Nueva España to the Spanish coast. The first such voyage to Europe occurred at an unknown date in the 1520s. However it was only in the 17th century that regular trade began from the port of Veracruz, opening a maritime trade route that would supply the new demand from Spain, and later from other European countries. - Sejarah cokelat di Spanyol adalah bagian dari sejarah kuliner Spanyol dan Perancis sebagaimana dipahami sejak abad ke-16, ketika kolonisasi Amerika dimulai dan tanaman kakao ditemukan di wilayah Mesoamerika, hingga saat ini. Après la Conquête du Mexique, le cacao voyage comme marchandise en bateau depuis un port de Nouvelle-Espagne en direction des côtes espagnoles. Ce premier voyage transatlantique a lieu autour des années 1520. Le transport ne se fit avec régularité qu'à partir du XVIIe siècle depuis le port de Veracruz, avec l'ouverture d'une route commerciale maritime qui approvisionnera la demande croissante de l'Espagne puis quelque temps après de toute l'Europe. - A história do chocolate na Espanha, compreendida desde o século XVI até o presente, é uma parte da história da culinária hispânica. Com a colonização da América foi descoberta em regiões da Mesoamérica a Theobroma cacao, a planta do cacau. E por volta de 1520, depois da conquista do México, o cacau cruzou o mar como mercadoria partindo da Nova Espanha rumo às costas espanholas. Porém, só no século XVII é que foi estabelecida uma rota marítima regular, partindo do porto de Veracruz, que abasteceria à nova demanda espanhola e posteriormente europeia por cacau. (pt)
