Herkenrode Abbey (Limburgish: Abdij van Herkenrode) was a Catholic monastery of Cistercian nuns located in Kuringen, part of the municipality of Hasselt, which lies in the province of Limburg, Belgium. Since 1972 some of the surviving buildings have served as the home of a community of the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre, who have since built a new retreat center and church on the site. In 1974 the buildings and the surrounding estate were designated and since then protected as a national historical monument and landscape.

(en) De Abdij van Herkenrode, een voormalig klooster voor cisterciënzerinnen met abdijhoeve en bedrijfsgebouwen, is gelegen op de zuidelijke Demeroever in Kuringen, een deelgemeente van de stad Hasselt in Belgisch-Limburg. Het geheel is gelegen te midden van een sinds 1974 beschermd bos- en landbouwlandschap, en toegankelijk langsheen twee dreven. Herkenrode is afgeleid van enerzijds het Keltische woord arika, verkleinwoord van ara (dat rivier betekent) en anderzijds rode dat open, ontgonnen plaats in een bos betekent. Herkenrode staat dus voor een open plaats bij een beek. (nl) L'abbaye de Herkenrode (en néerlandais : abdij van Herkenrode) était un monastère de religieuses cisterciennes situé à Kuringen, au cœur de l'actuelle province de Limbourg, en Belgique. À l'origine, une abbaye fut fondée en 1182. Elle fut affiliée en 1217 à l'Ordre cistercien. Les moniales se présentaient alors comme les « dames de la noblesse de l'Ordre de Cîteaux du comté de Looz ». En 1361, le comté de Looz est rattaché à la principauté de Liège, qui convoite les grandes richesses de l'abbaye et par deux fois s'efforce en vain de séculariser le monastère en chapitre de chanoinesses nobles.
