Hans Cloos (8 November 1885 – 26 September 1951) was a prominent German structural geologist. Born in Magdeburg, Germany, Hans Cloos earned his doctorate at Freiburg in 1910, then worked in Indonesia and Namibia up until the start of First World War. During the war his geological skills were put to use along the western front. In 1926 Cloos left Breslau to become professor of geology at the University of Bonn. He made additional geological trips to explore the Scandinavian region, England, and North America. Cloos died in Bonn, Germany in 1951.

Cloos blev filosofie doktor i Freiburg im Breisgau 1910, var därefter verksam i Tyska Sydvästafrika samt på Borneo och Java intill första världskrigets utbrott. År 1919 efterträdde han Fritz Frech som professor i geologi i Breslau och 1926 Gustav Steinmann som professor i Bonn. Han blev korresponderande ledamot av Geologiska Föreningen i Stockholm 1947 och tilldelades Penrosemedaljen 1948. (sv)

Hans Cloos obteve um doutorado na Universidade de Friburgo (Alemanha) em 1910, trabalhando depois na Indonésia e Namíbia até o início da Primeira Guerra Mundial. Durante a guerra seus conhecimentos foram aplicados na Frente Ocidental. Em 1926 Cloos saiu de Wrocław tendo sido nomeado professor de geologia da Universidade de Bonn.
