Gordon Hemenway Pettengill (February 10, 1926 – May 8, 2021) was an American radio astronomer and planetary physicist. He was one of the first to take radar from its original military application to its use as a tool for astronomy. He was professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Pettengill studierte Physik am MIT und an der University of California, Berkeley, an der er promovierte, unterbrochen von Militärdienst in Europa während des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Danach forschte er auf dem Gebiet der Radarastronomie, wo er 1958 am Lincoln Laboratory das erste Echo von der Venus empfangen konnte (Verbindung Erde-Venus-Erde). (de)
