Se alistó en los ejércitos de la República en 1792, y fue herido en Kaiserslautern. Siendo prisionero en Magdeburgo, empezó a estudiar historia natural. En 1801 Péron viajó a Australia como naturalista en la expedición de Nicolas Baudin. Con el artista Charles Alexandre Lesueur tomó los deberes de naturalista tras la muerte de zoólogo . Juntos recogieron más de 100.000 especímenes zoológicos. (es) François Auguste Péron (1775 – 1810) è stato un naturalista ed esploratore francese. Nel 1801 raggiunse l'Australia come naturalista nella spedizione di Nicolas Baudin. Insieme all'artista Charles Alexandre Lesueur, venne nominato zoologo di bordo dopo la morte di Maugé de Cely. Giunti in Australia, i due naturalisti raccolsero più di 100.000 esemplari zoologici. (it) François Auguste Péron (ur. w 1775 roku w – zm. tamże w roku 1810) – francuski przyrodnik i odkrywca. Urodził się i wychował w środkowej Francji w pobliżu Vichy. W roku 1792 17-letni kleryk porzucił seminarium duchowne, by zaciągnąć się do lokalnego oddziału rewolucyjnej milicji. W jednej z pierwszych potyczek stracił prawe oko i na tym jego kariera militarna uległa zakończeniu. Gdy na dodatek rzuciła go dziewczyna, którą planował poślubić, przeniósł się do Paryża i poświęcił studiom medycznym, ze specjalnością w historii naturalnej. (pl)
