A fandub is a fan-made dub or redub of a live-action or animated production. Dubbing is the act of re-recording of a live-action or animated production, typically in a language other than the original. Most productions are translated from different languages, but some fandubs are for productions that were produced in the fandubber's native language. The dialogue can range from being a close translation to a completely-altered version of the original script's story and plots, as well as the personalities of protagonists.

La raó que existeix darrere dels fandubs és posar a l'abast dels aficionats aquelles sèries o pel·lícules que són difícils d'aconseguir o que només es troben en idiomes diferents al propi amb la finalitat de doblar-les o simplement parodiar-les. - Een fandub is een door fans gemaakte nasynchronisatie van een live-action of geanimeerde productie. Ze worden het meeste (maar niet exclusief) toegepast op anime. Nasynchronisaties gebeuren meestal om een werk in een andere taal dan oorspronkelijk om te zetten. Fandubs bestaan echter voor verscheidene redenen. Soms is de dialoog een vertaling van het origineel. Fans gaan bijvoorbeeld zelf aan de slag omdat de officiële dub negatief onthaald werd of omdat deze niet bestaat in de taal van de fan. Soms gaat het ook om een volledig aangepaste versie met andere dialogen en een ander script. Dit gebeurt meestal op komische wijze. Dit soort fandubs heten "Abridged Series" en "fundubs". (nl)

Essas dublagens, por serem amadoras, não têm retorno financeiro, pois os fã-dubladores, em sua maioria, não possuem o registro de ator (DRT) e também não detêm os direitos autorais da obra com a qual estão trabalhando, o que vale para filmes, animações e semelhantes que tenham direitos autorais.
