The European Organisation for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS) is a non-governmental patient-driven alliance of patient organizations and individuals active in the field of rare diseases, that promotes research on rare diseases and commercial development of orphan drugs. EURORDIS is dedicated to improving the quality of life of all people living with rare diseases in Europe. It was founded in 1997; it is supported by its members and by the (AFM), the European Commission, corporate foundations and the health industry.

Ο EURORDIS ιδρύθηκε το 1997. Υποστηρίζεται από τα μέλη της και από τη (AFM), την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, συνεργαζόμενους οργανισμούς και τη βιομηχανία υγείας. Σύμφωνα με υπολογισμούς, μόνο στην Ευρώπη υπάρχουν 20-30 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι που ζουν με σπάνιες παθήσεις, και περίπου 6 χιλιάδες διαφορετικές σπάνιες παθήσεις. Η EURORDIS εκπροσωπεί περισσότερους από 700 οργανισμούς σπάνιων παθήσεων από 63 διαφορετικές χώρες (εκ των οποίων οι 26 είναι μέλη της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης), καλύπτοντας πάνω από 2000 σπάνιες παθήσεις. Το EURORDIS είναι μια εξέλιξη του κινήματος αυτο-υπεράσπισης των ασθενών, το οποίο αποδίδεται ευρέως στον ακτιβισμό του AIDS. Ο EURORDIS ήταν ιδρυτικός συνεργάτης της Ημέρας Σπάνιων Παθήσεων το 2008 και παραμένει ο επικεφαλής συντονιστής της.
