Dopplereffekt is an electronic music act from Detroit which has been active since 1995, and whose main member is Gerald Donald. While the musical style and the act's image changed radically during a non-release period from 1999 to 2003, two steady characteristics are the display of a thematic affiliation with science and the obvious use of pseudonyms and the hence rumored but unconfirmed identities of the members.

The main member is producer/artist Gerald Donald, also one half of the band Drexciya (with James Stinson). Another member is To Nhan Le Thi. The group released a compilation album, , in 1999, and were inactive until 2003; since then three albums were released. The group also has political influences, with the cover of Dopplereffekt’s Gesamtkunstwerk, in 1999, featuring a white hammer and sickle on a black background. In an interview with Gerald Donald stated that socialism is an ideal political concept in theory, with the purpose of the album cover being to pay homage to the ideal of this political idea. (en)

El sonido del grupo durante su primera etapa está fuertemente emparentado con el de otros productores de Detroit, especialmente en el ámbito del electro. En sus orígenes estuvieron fuertemente ligados a Underground Resistance y al resurgir del electro en esta ciudad durante los años 90. El sonido de la segunda etapa del grupo, tras la publicación del recopilatorio Gesamtkunstwerk en 1999 y su período de inactividad, está basado en el procesamiento digital de sonidos y su sintetización. En ocasiones, la falta de ritmos musicales hace que su música se acerque a la música clásica contemporánea o a la música concreta. El principal integrante del grupo desde su inicio es probablemente el músico Gerald Donald alias "Rudolf Klorzeiger". Se cree que Donald participa también en los grupos Heinrich Müeller/ Der Zyklus, Japanese Telecom, Arpanet y Zwischenwelt. También fue parte de Drexciya. (es)
