Saint Didier, also known as Desiderius (c. 580 AD – November 15, traditionally 655), was a Merovingian-era royal official of aristocratic Gallo-Roman extraction. He succeeded his own brother, Rusticus of Cahors, as bishop of Cahors and governed the diocese, which flourished under his care, from 630 to 655. Didier's career, like that of his brothers, is an example of a church and a monastic system controlled by the ruling, landholding class that was closely linked to the Merovingian monarchy. "This was no innovation of this period, but rather represented a continuation of a state of affairs which had existed since late Roman and early Merovingian times".

Desiderius wurde in Obrege im südlichen Teil Aquitaniens geboren. Er stammte aus einer wohlhabenden Familie. Sein Vater Salvius kam aus Albi (der von 574 bis 584 bezeugte Bischof Salvius von Albi dürfte ein Großvater von Desiderius sein). Mit seinen Brüdern Rusticus (später Bischof von Cahors) und Syagrius (später Graf von Albi) wurde er am Hofe des fränkischen Königs Chlothar II. erzogen. Er bekleidete das Amt des Schatzmeisters (Thesaurarius), das er auch unter König Dagobert I. behielt. Nachdem 630 die Einwohner von Cahors seinen Bruder Rusticus erschlugen, wurde er zum Bischof von Cahors geweiht. Er grü (de) San Desiderio fue obispo de Cahors. Hijo de Salvo de Harchenefredo y hermano de Siagro y de Rustico, vivió en el siglo VII. Se crio en la corte del rey Clotario II, donde poseían sus padres los primeros empleos y él mismo ejerció el de tesorero o superintendente de rentas reales. En adelante sucedió a su hermano Rustico en el gobierno de la iglesia de Cahors. Dagoberto opuso mucha resistencia para dejar ir a un ministro tan fiel pero el interés de la iglesia le obligó a supeditar el del estado. Su fiesta se celebra el 15 de noviembre. (es)
