- Das Leibniz-Institut DSMZ - Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen mit Sitz in Braunschweig ist eine Forschungsinfrastruktur in der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft. Gleichzeitig ist die DSMZ die weltweit vielfältigste Sammlung von Bioressourcen (Stand 2021: 75.000 Bioressourcen). Hierzu zählen Mikroorganismen (darunter mehr als 32.000 Bakterien-Stämme, 690 Archaeen-Stämme, 7.000 Stämme von Hefen und Pilzen) sowie mehr als 840 menschliche und tierische Zellkulturen, über 1.500 Pflanzenviren, über 940 Bakteriophagen und 250 Plasmide (Stand 2021). Wissenschaftlicher Direktor des Leibniz-Instituts DSMZ ist seit 2010 der promovierte Mikrobiologe Jörg Overmann. Er hat eine Professur für Mikrobiologie an der TU Braunschweig.
