- La Armada Continental (del inglés: Continental Navy), creada en 1775, fue la fuerza naval de los Estados Unidos durante su guerra de independencia. La Armada Continental nació con el objetivo principal de interceptar los barcos británicos que transportaban avituallamientos para las tropas inglesas y en general entorpecer las operaciones de transporte marítimo. Debido a la falta de fondos y recursos la flota inicial estaba formada por barcos mercantes reconvertidos y los diseños para barcos de guerra llegarían más tarde durante el conflicto. Los éxitos de los buques que consiguieron hacerse a la mar fueron escasos y su contribución al esfuerzo general de la rebelión apenas tuvo relevancia. (es)
