Cathayopterus is an extinct genus of ctenochasmatid pterosaur from the Early Cretaceous-age Yixian Formation of Liaoning, China. The name means "China wing", using the word "Cathay" as an old alternative name for China. The type species is C. grabaui, described in 2006 by and Zhou Zhongh. It is a member of the Ctenochasmatidae, a clade of mostly filter feeding pterosaurs from the Jurassic and early Cretaceous.

Het holotype van Cathayopterus, IVPP V13756, is gevonden in de van de middelste in Liaoning bij het dorp . Het bestaat uit een schedel met onderkaken. Boven- en onderkaken zijn zeer langgerekt en aan hun verbrede uiteinden voorzien van talrijke lange tanden. De snuitlengte bedraagt meer dan de helft van de schedellengte. Alle tanden bevinden zich vóór de fenestra nasoantorbitalis. De tanden zijn slank en worden naar achteren toe kleiner. Verder veranderen ze niet van proportie. Wang plaatste de soort in de Ctenochasmatidae; dit werd bevestigd door een kladistische analyse van in 2007.
