Cambuslang East is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects three councillors. The largest neighbourhood within the suburban ward is Halfway, also including the areas of Cairns, the Circuit, Drumsagard, Lightburn, Newton and Westburn, all situated within Cambuslang, lying east of its town centre. The northern border is the River Clyde and the eastern border the Rotten Calder. A 2017 national review removed some territory in the west of the ward (between Greenlees Road and the Cathcart Circle Line railway tracks over Hamilton Road). The population in 2018 was 16,597.
