Brian N. Ball (19 June 1932 - 23 July 2020) was an English author of speculative fiction, known mainly for his three series Timepiece, Probability Man, and Jackson, as well as numerous standalone novels. In all, he authored some 90 novels. Ball attended Chester College from 1953 to 1955, received a BA from London University in 1960, and then an MA from Sheffield University in 1968. His degree was in theology, though he was an atheist.

Nach dem Studium in London und Sheffield arbeitete er als Lehrer. 1962 veröffentlichte er eine erste Erzählung im Science-Fiction-Magazin New Worlds, ab 1965 wurde er freier Schriftsteller.Als sein bester Roman gilt der Erstling Sundog (deutsch unter dem Titel Blockade), in dem er eine von Aliens an der Ausbreitung in interstellare Räume gehinderte, strikter Kontrolle unterworfene Menschheit schildert.Die Romane The Space Guardians (1975) und Survival (2005) sind Romanfassungen von Episoden der britischen Fernsehserie Space: 1999 (deutsche Fassung als Mondbasis Alpha 1). Neben Science-Fiction schrieb er auch mehrere der Horrorliteratur zuzurechnende Werke. (de)
