(fr) Der Brandaris ist ein Leuchtturm auf Terschelling. Er ist der älteste Leuchtturm der Niederlande. Der Name ist eine Anlehnung an St. Brandarius, einen Heiligen, nach dem die Gemeinde von West-Terschelling im Mittelalter benannt wurde. Gemäß anderen Legenden geht der Name auf den heiligen Brendan zurück, ein Seemann, aber das ist nicht bewiesen. Der erste Turm wurde im Jahr 1323 gebaut, um Schiffe auf ihrem Weg nach Amsterdam, durch die Zuiderzee, die enge Öffnung zwischen Vlieland und Terschelling, zu leiten. (de) De Brandaris is een vuurtoren op Terschelling, en tevens de oudste nog werkende vuurtoren van Nederland. Deze toren is vernoemd naar Sint Brandarius of Sint Brandaan. In het huidige dorp West-Terschelling stond in de middeleeuwen een Sint-Brandariuskerk, waarvan de toren als baken voor de scheepvaart diende. Deze kerk bestaat niet meer. De huidige Brandaris heeft de rol van baken van de voormalige Brandarius-kerktoren overgenomen; vandaar dat deze vuurtoren de naam van de zeevarende heilige Brandaan heeft behouden. (nl)
