Blue diaper syndrome is a rare, autosomal recessive or X linked recessive metabolic disorder characterized in infants by bluish urine-stained diapers. It is also known as Drummond's syndrome, and hypercalcemia. It was characterized in 1964, and inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern although X-linked recessive inheritance has not been completely ruled out since reported patients have been male.

- Das Blaue-Windeln-Syndrom (engl. blue diaper syndrome), auch als Tryptophan-Malabsorptionssyndrom bezeichnet, ist eine sehr seltene angeborene Stoffwechselerkrankung, bei der es zu einer Malabsorption der Aminosäure Tryptophan kommt. Symptome des Blaue-Windeln-Syndroms ergeben sich jedoch auch bei erworbener Tryptophan-Malabsorption. Eine Blaufärbung des Urins findet sich auch nach Aufnahme von Farbstoffen (beispielsweise Patentblau V), bei Harnwegsinfekten durch Pseudomonas aeruginosa mit Bildung von Pyocyanin und beim Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS). Aminokwas ten ulega degradacji pod wpływem bakterii w świetle jelita do barwników indolowych, które następnie zostają wydalane przez nerki i wreszcie po zetknięciu z powietrzem ulegają utlenianiu, zmieniając kolor moczu na niebieski.
