| - كان بيرنارد رينش (من مواليد 21 كانون الثاني/يناير عام 1900 وتوفي في 4 نيسان /أبريل عام 1990) عالم أحياء تطورية وعالم طيور ألماني وقد قام بعمل ميداني في إندونيسيا والهند. بدأ حياته المهنية بوجهات نظر مؤيدة لما قبل لاماركيان ومن ثم انتقل إلى الانتقائية وعلم الاصطناع التطوري الحديث في علم الأحياء التطوري وكان مسؤولاً عن نشره في ألمانيا. إلى جانب عمله حول كيفية تأثير العوامل البيئية على تطور السكان المعزولين جغرافيا وعلى التطور فوق مستوى الأنواع والذي ساهم في علم الاصطناع التطوري الحديث فقد عمل أيضاً على نطاق واسع في مجال السلوك الحيواني (الإيثولوجيا) وعلى الجوانب الفلسفية للعلوم البيولوجية. انقطع تعليمه وعمله العلمي خلال الخدمة في الجيش الألماني خلال كلا الحربين العالميتين الأولى والثانية. - Bernhard Carl Emmanuel Rensch (* 21. Januar 1900 in Thale im Harz; † 4. April 1990 in Münster) war ein Evolutionsbiologe, Zoologe, Verhaltensforscher, Neurophysiologe und Philosoph sowie Mitbegründer der synthetischen Evolutionstheorie. Er war Ordinarius für Zoologie und Direktor des Zoologischen Instituts an der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. Zusammen mit seiner Frau (geb. Maier) (1902–1992) arbeitete er auch auf dem Gebiet der Malakologie und beschrieb mehrere neue Arten und Unterarten von Landschnecken. (de)
- Bernhard Rensch (21 January 1900 – 4 April 1990) was a German evolutionary biologist and ornithologist who did field work in Indonesia and India. Starting his scientific career with pro-Lamarckian views, he shifted to selectionism and became one of the architects of the modern synthesis in evolutionary biology, which he popularised in Germany. Besides his work on how environmental factors influenced the evolution of geographically isolated populations and on evolution above the species level, which contributed to the modern synthesis, he also worked extensively in the area of animal behavior (ethology) and on philosophical aspects of biological science. His education and scientific work were interrupted by service in the German military during both World War I and World War II. (en)

Sirvió en el ejército alemán de 1917 a 1920, y luego continuó su educación. Y recibe su Ph.D por parte de la Universidad de Halle en 1922. Trabaja en el Museo Zoológico de la Universidad de Berlín, como asistente en 1925. En 1927, participa en la Expedición zoológica a las islas Sunda. Estudia distribuciones geográficas de subespecies de especies politípicas y a complejos de especies muy relacionadas con atención a cómo los factores locales ambientales influencian su evolución. En 1929 publica el libro Das Prinzip geographischer Rassenkreise und das Problem der Artbildung, donde discute las relaciones entre geografía y especiación. (es)

Prestò servizio militare nell'esercito tedesco dal 1917 al 1920, per poi proseguire in seguito la sua formazione. Ricevette il dottorato presso l'Università di Halle nel 1922. Nel 1925 iniziò a lavorare come assistente al Museo Zoologico dell'Università di Berlino e nel 1927 prese parte ad una spedizione zoologica nelle isole della Sonda, studiando la distribuzione geografica di sottospecie appartenenti a specie politipiche e a complessi di specie strettamente imparentate, prestando attenzione a come i fattori ambientali avevano influenzato la loro evoluzione.
