The Benin ivory mask is a miniature sculptural portrait in ivory of Idia, the first Iyoba (Queen Mother) of the 16th century Benin Empire, taking the form of a traditional African mask. The masks were looted by the British from the palace of the Oba of Benin in the Benin Expedition of 1897. There are also examples on the same theme at the Seattle Art Museum and the Linden Museum, and one in a private collection.

(en) La máscara de marfil de Benín es un retrato en miniatura esculpido en marfil de la poderosa Reina madre Idia del Imperio de Benín del siglo XVI, que toma la forma de una máscara tradicional africana. Existen dos máscaras casi idénticas: una en el Museo Británico de Londres y la otra en el Museo Metropolitano de Arte de Nueva York. Ambos muestran el sereno rostro de la Reina madre con un tocado de cuentas, una gargantilla de cuentas en su cuello, escarificaciónes resaltadas por incrustaciones de hierro en la frente y todo enmarcado por la brida de una tiara calada y collar con imágenes de seres simbólicos, así como bucles dobles en cada lado para la fijación del colgante. Il était vraisemblablement porté comme pendentif par son fils (en), qui devait son trône d'oba du Bénin au soutien militaire de la reine mère. Deux masques-pendentifs presque identiques existent : l'un au British Museum de Londres, l'autre au Metropolitan Museum of Art de New York.
