The Battle of Toungoo was one of the key battles in the Battle of Yunnan-Burma Road in the Burma Campaign of World War II and Second Sino-Japanese War. The failure of the Chinese to hold the city of Toungoo opened up the route for the Japanese to make their lunge to Lashio around the allied flank and into the Chinese rear.

Elle se déroula dans la ville de Taungû, sur le fleuve Sittang. Après plusieurs jours de combats intenses, les troupes chinoises durent battre en retraite. (fr) 同古戰役發生在1942年3月19日至3月29日，由第五軍入緬先頭部隊國民革命軍第二〇〇师防衛日本帝國陸軍對緬甸同古（今稱東吁）之進攻，為緬甸戰役一部分。 (zh) Die Schlacht um Toungoo war eine militärische Operation während der Japanischen Eroberung Burmas des Pazifikkriegs im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Einheiten der nationalchinesischen Armee (Kuomintang) kämpften dabei gegen angreifende Truppen der , Kaiserlich Japanisches Heer. Die chinesischen Truppen, die unter dem Kommando von General , einem persönlichen Freund Chiang Kai-sheks, standen, hatten vom britischen General Harold Alexander den Befehl erhalten, die Stadt gegen die japanischen Truppen so lange wie nur möglich zu verteidigen. Ziel des japanischen Angriffes war es, zum einen die chinesischen Truppen in der Stadt aufzureiben und zum anderen die rechte Flanke der britischen Armee zu überrollen.
