The Battle of Natural Bridge was fought during the American Civil War in what is now Woodville, Florida near Tallahassee on March 6, 1865. A small group of Confederate troops and volunteers, which included teenagers from the nearby Florida Military and Collegiate Institute that would later become Florida State University, protected by breastworks, prevented a detachment of United States Colored Troops from crossing the Natural Bridge on the St. Marks River.

L’armée confédérée était composée essentiellement de jeunes miliciens locaux issus d’un collège militaire qui deviendra plus tard l’Université d'État de Floride. Les Confédérés repoussèrent une attaque de l’armée nordiste composée essentiellement de soldats afro-américains faisant partie des United States Colored Troops. Ces derniers tentaient de franchir le pont de Natural Bridge qui enjambe la St. Marks River. La bataille permit à la capitale Tallahassee de rester la seule capitale des États du Sud à ne pas être occupée par les nordistes durant la guerre. Een kleine groep van Zuidelijke soldaten en vrijwilligers, voornamelijk studenten en oudere mannen, verdedigden met succes hun stellingen tegen de aanvallen van Noordelijke troepen (voornamelijk Afro-Amerikaanse soldaten). Door deze aanval af te slaan slaagden de Zuidelijken erin de hoofdstad van Florida, Tallahassee te vrijwaren van Noordelijke bezetting. Dit was de enige Zuidelijke hoofdstad ten oosten van de Mississippi die niet zou ingenomen worden door de Noordelijken tijdens de oorlog.
