- Il legamento crociato anteriore (in latino: ligamenta cruciata genus), noto in ambito medico con l'acronimo LCA o in quello inglese ACL, è uno dei quattro più importanti legamenti che costituiscono l'articolazione del ginocchio. È una struttura legamentosa, di forma allungata, collocata al centro del ginocchio, tesa fra tibia e femore. La sua funzione è quella di stabilizzare l'articolazione, in collaborazione con il legamento crociato posteriore, con il quale va a formare il pivot centrale dell'articolazione. In particolare, la sua funzione primaria è quella di impedire lo spostamento in avanti della tibia rispetto al femore. Il nome è indicativo del caratteristico incrocio di questi con il legamento crociato posteriore all'altezza delle loro intersezioni sulla tibia. (it)
