Andreas Panagopoulos (Greek: Ανδρέας Παναγόπουλος, 1883 - 1952) was a Greek politician and four times mayor of Agrinio, being considered one of the city's most important mayors. He was born in Agrinio in 1883 and to Anastasis Panagopoulos, a trader whose origin was from Kalavryta. Andreas studied in a private school in Corfu. He became involved in the tobacco industry, and founded the Panagopoulos Bros. firm, one of the most famous tobacco companies in Greece.

Γενήθηκε στο Αγρίνιο το 1883 και ήταν γιος του Αναστάση, εμπόρου της πόλης με καταγωγή από τα Καλάβρυτα. Φοίτησε στο γνωστό εκείνη την εποχή Εκπαιδευτήριο Βλάχου της Κέρκυρας και από νωρίς ανέπτυξε έντονη επιχειρηματική, φιλανθρωπική και πολιτιστική δράση. Ασχολήθηκε με το εμπόριο καπνού και ανέδειξε την εταιρεία Αδελφοί Παναγόπουλου σε έναν από τους κυριότερους εξαγωγείς καπνού στην Ελλάδα. Εκλέχθηκε δήμαρχος της πόλης για τρεις θητείες το 1925 έως 1934 και από το 1951 έως το 1952 που πέθανε. Υπήρξε ένας από τους σημαντικότερους δημάρχους και μεταξύ των έργων που έκανε ήταν η συμπλήρωση της ρυμοτομίας της πόλης, η ασφαλτόστρωση των κεντρικών δρόμων, η κατασκευή σύγχρονου υδραγωγείου το 1930, η χρηματοδότηση των ανασκαφών για τον εντοπισμό του αρχαίου Αγρινίου, η οικοδόμηση της δημοτικής αγοράς το 1932 ενώ επί των ημερών του ηλεκτροφωτίστηκε για πρώτη φορά η πόλη. Για τη δράση του γενικά σαν δημοτικός άρχοντας παρασημοφορήθηκε και ήταν ένας από τους πέντε ιδρυτές της Ένωσης Δήμων και Κοινοτήτων της Ελλάδας. Διετέλεσε και βουλευτής μετά το 1935 και πριν από τη γερμανική κατοχή. Το όνομά του έχει δοθεί σε κεντρικό δρόμο της πόλης και στην πλατεία με το συντριβάνι που βρίσκεται μπροστά από το δημαρχείο. Εκεί υπάρχει ακόμα το διατηρητέο αρχοντικό της οικογένειάς του. (el)

He became mayor of the city of Agrinio for three consecutive terms from 1925 to 1934, and again from 1951 to 1952, when he died. He was one of the most important mayors. Among his achievements were the completion of the civic street plan, its electrification, the paving of its roads, the construction of a modern aqueduct in 1930, the building of the Central Municipal market in 1932, and the commencement of archaeological digs to uncover the remains of the ancient city of Agrinion. He also served briefly as an MP in 1935-1936. A central street in Agrinio, as well as the square in front of the city hall, bear his name. On the same square lies his family's mansion, which has been declared a historic monument. (en)
