  • Alejandro Ives Estivill Castro is a Mexican Diplomat and novelist. He specializes in Mexican literature of the 20th Century. He holds a BA in Hispanic Literature from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a PhD. in Literature from El Colegio de México. He participated in the workshop that would originate the Crack Movement in 1999, and with authors Jorge Volpi, Ignacio Padilla and others published Variations of a Faulkner Theme, a book that won the National Story Prize that same year.He has taught at Harvard and Mexico’s Technological Institute (ITESM) and written numerous articles, related both to culture and international relations. After his entrance into the Foreign Service in 1993, he has served as special advisor to the Secretary of Foreign Relations, Political Affairs Attaché for the Mexican Embassy in Costa Rica, Chief of Staff for the Undersecretary of Foreign Relations Enrique Berruga, Director General for Cultural Affairs and Director General for North American Affairs. He held the position of Chargé d´Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Deputy Chief of Mission at Embassy of Mexico in the United States. He is appointed General Consul of Mexico in Montreal, Canada, 2016. Es licenciado en Literatura Hispánica por la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, maestro y doctor en Literatura por El Colegio de México y maestro en Estudios Diplomáticos.​ En 1999, participó en el taller que dio origen a la Generación del crack, por lo que colaboró con Jorge Volpi, Ignacio Padilla y otros en el libro Variaciones sobre un tema de Faulkner.Ha impartido cátedra en la Universidad de Harvard, Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). Ingresó al Servicio Exterior Mexicano en 1993, donde se desempeñó como asesor especial del Secretario de Relaciones Extranjeras, agregado en asuntos políticos para la Embajada de México en Costa Rica, jefe de personal del Subsecretario de Relaciones Extranjeras Enrique Berruga; Director General de Asuntos Culturales (2005-2007) y Director General para América del Norte hasta 2011 cuando fue nombrado Jefe de Misión Adjunto de la Embajada de México en Londres donde fungió como encargado de negocios durante 2013, luego de la salida del embajador Eduardo Medina Mora. Igualmente, se desempeñó como Encargado de negocios ad interim de la Embajada de México en Estados Unidos de marzo a septiembre de 2015, tras la renuncia de Eduardo Medina Mora como Embajador, para incorporarse como Ministro en la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación. ..​ Actualmente se desempeña como Cónsul General de México en Montreal, Canadá.
