The Afghan Genizah (alternatively spelled Afghan Geniza) is a collection of hundreds of Jewish manuscript fragments found in the caves of Afghanistan. The manuscripts include writings in Hebrew, Aramaic, Judeo-Arabic and Judeo-Persian, some of which are 1,000 years old. In 2013, the National Library of Israel announced that it had purchased 29 pages from this cache of documents and another 250 or so in 2016. In 2020, they became part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and European Research Council (ERC)-funded University of Oxford-based research project Invisible East.

Therefore, researchers deem this collection the most important finding of documentary sources since the discovery of the Cairo Genizah more than 100 years prior. Poza rękopisami znaleziono również pierścienie, na których widnieją wygrawerowane hebrajskie imiona, np. Samuel syn Józefa. Zwoje, które po raz pierwszy pojawiły się w Peszawarze w Pakistanie, zostały sprzedane antykwariuszom w Genewie, Londynie, Dubaju i Jerozolimie. Według prof. Haggai Ben-Shammaiego, emerytowanego wykładowcy języka i literatury arabskiej na Uniwersytecie Hebrajskim, znaleziono około 150 fragmentów, choć może ich być znacznie więcej. Informację o odkryciu dużego zbioru dokumentów podały 30 grudnia 2011 roku izraelskie media. W 2013 roku Biblioteka Narodowa Izraela zakupiła 29 stron z pismami Saadii Gaona pochodzących z dokumentów genizy afgańskiej. O ile skala odkrycia zostanie potwierdzona, będzie je można porównać z odkryciem w XIX wieku słynnej genizy kairskiej. (pl)
