His father played baseball but upon attending his first soccer practice at age 5, Tredway told his father he would grow up and become a professional soccer player. Tredway played soccer at California State University, Stanislaus and graduated with a degree in Wellness Management in 1998. Following a 2-week playing tour in Africa with Athletes in Action, Tredway signed a contract to play for the Black Aces of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. (en)
