Abdelhamid Ibrahim Sabra (1924-2013) was a professor of the history of science specializing in the history of optics and science in medieval Islam. He died December 18, 2013. Sabra provided English translation and commentary for Books I-III of Ibn al-Haytham's seven book Kitab al-Manazir (Book of Optics), written in Arabic in the 11th century. In 2005 he was awarded the Sarton Medal for lifetime achievement in the history of science by the History of Science Society.

(fr) عبد الحميد صبرة (1924-2013) أستاذ تاريخ علوم وتكنولوجيا مصري، متخصص في تاريخ علم البصريات والعلم الإسلامي في العصور الوسطى. ولد لعائلة متوسطة الحال وكان الطفل الوحيد، بعد أن درس في المدرسة القبطية المحلية تحصل على منحة لدراسة الفلسفة في جامعة الإسكندرية، تتلمذ على علماء مثل يوسف كرم وأبو العلا عفيفي ثم تحصل عام 1950 على منحة من الحكومة المصرية لدراسة فلسفة العلوم في كلية لندن للاقتصاد وحصل على درجة الدكتوراه في عام 1955 تحت إشراف كارل بوبر عن أطروحة في علم البصريات في القرن السابع عشر. Sabra es un profesor emérito especializado en la historia de la ciencia y, en particular, la historia de la óptica y la ciencia islámica en la Edad Media. Sabra estudió en la Universidad de Alejandría y luego con Karl Popper en la Universidad de Londres donde se doctoró en 1955 con una tesis sobre la óptica en el siglo XVII. Enseñó en Alejandría entre 1955 y 1962, en el Warburg Institute entre 1962 y 1972 y en la Universidad de Harvard entre 1972 hasta que se retiró en 1996. En 2005 recibió la Medalla George Sarton (es)
