Das Logo besteht aus den zwei Ziffern "5" und dazwischen eine tiefgestellte kreisrunde "Null." Sie gilt als schnelle, wendige und entsprechend anspruchsvolle Klasse für Regattasegler. Die 505er Regatten werden auf sehr hohem Niveau gesegelt, da viele Spitzensegler (Weltmeister/Europameister/Olympiasieger) aus anderen Bootsklassen auf dieses Boot umgestiegen sind. Entworfen wurde die seit 1955 auch 1954 vom Briten John Westell. (de) O 505 é um veleiro de série internacional para dois tripulantes (o leme e o proa) criado em 1952 depois da Federação Internacional de Vela ter lança um concurso para escolher um veleiro ligeiro para dois velejadores. Estavam presentes na prova de qualificação ele e o Flying Dutchman que domina a regata, mas tanto os franceses como os ingleses o acham demasiado potente para uma equipa de dois. (pt)
