The 1996–97 NBA season was the 51st season for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association. Celebrating its 50th anniversary as one of the NBA's original franchises, the Celtics selected Antoine Walker from the University of Kentucky with the sixth pick in the 1996 NBA draft. During the off-season, the team signed free agents Frank Brickowski and Marty Conlon.
