- Le elezioni generali nel Regno Unito del 1959 si tennero l'8 ottobre e rappresentarono la terza vittoria consecutiva per il Partito Conservatore, allora guidato da Harold Macmillan. I conservatori incrementarono ulteriormente la propria presenza in Parlamento fino a 100 seggi di vantaggio rispetto al Partito Laburista di Hugh Gaitskell. Tuttavia, nonostante questo successo, non riuscirono ad ottenere la maggioranza dei seggi in Scozia, dando inizio ad una tendenza che si protrae fino ad oggi; da allora infatti i laburisti mantennero il dominio in Scozia, fino alla crescita del Partito Nazionale Scozzese alle elezioni del 2015. - The 1959 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 8 October 1959. It marked a third consecutive victory for the ruling Conservative Party, now led by Harold Macmillan. For the second time in a row, the Conservatives increased their overall majority in Parliament, this time to a landslide majority of 100 seats, having gained 20 seats for a return of 365. The Labour Party, led by Hugh Gaitskell, lost 19 seats and returned 258. The Liberal Party, led by Jo Grimond, again returned only six MPs to the House of Commons, but managed to increase its overall share of the vote to 5.9%, compared to just 2.7% four years earlier. Це на сьогоднішній день єдиний випадок після Другої Світової війни, коли урядові вдалося збільшити підтримку в парламенті та втретє підряд сформувати уряд. Однак, незважаючи на цей успіх, консерваторам не вдалося завоювати більшість місць у Шотландії, чого не зроблено і досі.
