The 1938 Santa Ana air show disaster occurred on 24 July 1938 at a military review on the Campo de Marte in the Santa Ana district of Bogota, Colombia. During the review, a Curtiss Hawk II biplane of the Colombian Air Force piloted by Lieutenant César Abadia performed a stunt before crashing into a grandstand and then into the crowd.

The pilot attempted to fly between the presidential stand and the stand for diplomats when he miscalculated the distance and the aircraft's wing-tip struck the diplomatic stand. The Hawk II destroyed part of the roof of the presidential stand and then careened through the crowd bursting into flames before it came to a stop upside down. Over fifty people, including civilians and soldiers were killed, and over a hundred injured. Among those in the presidential stand but uninjured were the outgoing Colombian President Alfonso López Pumarejo and his successor Eduardo Santos. Among the wounded was Misael Pastrana Borrero, a future president of Colombia. (en)

En la tribuna, a la que asistían más de 500 invitados, se encontraban el saliente presidente colombiano, Alfonso López Pumarejo, y el electo, Eduardo Santos, quienes resultaron ilesos. Entre los heridos se encontraba Misael Pastrana Borrero, presidente de Colombia en el periodo 1970-1974, quien sufrió heridas de gravedad y quemaduras en el rostro. Fallecieron también dos hermanas del político Julio César Turbay. La hélice del avión se abrió paso entre la multitud, cortando las cabezas, brazos, y piernas de varios espectadores que huían de la llamarada. Muchas de las víctimas eran niños, y gente que fue pisoteada por la multitud en pánico. Seis meses antes del accidente, el Teniente Abadía había sido suspendido por tomar riesgos excesivos. (es)

Le pilote a tenté un passage entre la tribune présidentielle et la tribune des diplomates mais semble avoir mal estimé les distances : l'extrémité de son aile a heurté la tribune diplomatique. Le Hawk II a détruit une partie du toit de la tribune présidentielle et a ensuite atteint la foule avant d'exploser puis de s'arrêter sur le dos. Plus de cinquante personnes, civils et militaires compris, ont été tuées et plus de cent blessées. Parmi les personnes présentes dans la tribune présidentielle mais indemnes se trouvaient le président sortant colombien Alfonso López Pumarejo et son successeur Eduardo Santos. Parmi les blessés se trouvait Misael Pastrana, qui deviendra plus tard président de la Colombie. (fr)
