- The 1931 Primera División season was the 40th season of top-flight football in Argentina and the first to be professional in the country, after eighteen clubs broke away from the amateur league structure to form the professional league, "Liga Argentina de Football" (LAF). The inaugural champions was Boca Juniors led by coach Mario Fortunato. The top scorer of the championship was Alberto Zozaya of Estudiantes de La Plata with 33 goals. The official body (AFA) remained amateur under the denomination "Asociación Amateurs Argentina de Football". (en)

- In 1931 werd het eerste profseizoen gespeeld van de Primera División, de hoogste voetbaldivisie van Argentinië. Boca Juniors werd kampioen. Het was het veertigste seizoen in het Argentijnse voetbal. Dit jaar was er een splitsing gekomen. De profclubs zetten hun eigen competitie op en de overgebleven amateurclubs bleven in de competitie spelen zoals de voorbije jaren. - El Campeonato de Primera División 1931 fue el primero de la llamada era profesional de la Primera División de Argentina. Lo organizó la Liga Argentina de Football, asociación disidente de la FIFA hasta que en 1934 se fusionó con la Asociación Argentina de Football (Amateurs y Profesionales), para tomar el nombre de Asociación del Football Argentino. Este proceso fue precedido por una huelga de jugadores, iniciada el 10 de abril, con el fin de que se reconociera su condición de profesionales y se regularizaran los traspasos entre equipos. (es)

La competizione venne organizzata dalla Liga Argentina de Football; venne adottato un unico girone all'italiana, in cui erano comprese tutte le 18 squadre associate alla LAF, con gare di andata e ritorno. Il torneo fu vinto dal Boca Juniors, che precedette il San Lorenzo; dato che non era possibile istituire una seconda divisione per mancanza di squadre, non furono previste retrocessioni. In totale furono disputate 34 giornate, dal 31 maggio 1931 al 6 gennaio 1932. La Primera División ebbe un vasto seguito di spettatori, e a prendervi parte furono i club più importanti dell'epoca, che si erano staccati dall'allora unica federazione esistente, l'Asociación Amateurs Argentina de Football.
