| - .berlin (dotBERLIN) és un domini de primer nivell proposat. També és un dels anomenats dominis de primer nivell genèrics pensat per ser un domini de primer nivell per tots els llocs amb el nom de Berlín. La comunitat de berlinesos demana el seu propi domini a Internet. Juntament amb dominis de primer nivell com .cat, .asia i .eu, .berlin i altres dominis de primer nivell corresponen a la nova categoria de GEOTLDs (del seu nom en anglès, dominis de primer nivell geogràfics). L'assumpte del nous dominis de primer nivell, sobretot del .berlin ha estat discutit (en anglès) a diverses reunions de l'ICANN des del 2005. La intenció de proposar nous dominis de primer nivell per regions i ciutats és que Internet està esdevenint més local i les recerques afecten cada cop més l'entorn més local de l'usuari d'Internet. Alhora, els dominis són un recurs escàs en algunes terminacions de domini. La proposta per estendre l'espai de noms d'Internet es veu com un avanç en sistema actual. On July 9, 2009, dotBERLIN managing director Dirk Krischenowski filed an application for a City Top-Level Domain Constituency, an interest group at ICANN. This interest group was the precursor of the Brussels based GeoTLD Group AISBL, that was formed in September 2016 and whose mission is to "Promoting Digital Identities for Cities, Regions, Language and Culture on the Internet". On October 31, 2013, dotBERLIN GmbH & Co. KG signed a registry agreement with ICANN for .berlin. berlin officially launched on March 18, 2014. Managing director of dotBERLIN is Dirk Krischenowski. In October 2018, dotBERLIN founded the non-for-profit initiative Kiezhelden to support the local dealers. “Kiez” – that is a German word that refers to a city neighborhood, a relatively small community within a larger town. The second part of Kiezhelden, the word “Helden”, is the German word für “hero”. Kiezhelden.berlin aims to strengthen the small boutiques, handicraft shops, restaurants, cafés, and local service providers in Berlin’s neighborhoods in order to help the neighborhoods to remain as colorful and vibrant as they are.
