Selompret Melajoe (Malay for 'Malay trumpet') was one of the first Malay language newspapers to publish in the Dutch East Indies. It was printed in Semarang, Central Java from 1860 to 1920. Due to the lack of a standard spelling for the Malay language in the Latin alphabet prior to the introduction of the Van Ophuijsen Spelling System, the name of the newspaper was variously spelled Slompret Melajoe, Selompret Melajoe, Selompret Melaijoe, or Slompret Melayoe during its history. The spelling in modern Indonesian orthography would be Selompret Melayu.

Awalnya Selompret Melajoe berhati-hati dalam memuat berita, namun memasuki 1900 seiring "politik etis," surat kabar ini mulai masuk ke ranah politik meskipun masih tetap bermuatan bisnis. Kehadirannya menjadi tonggak munculnya koran-koran bisnis berbahasa Melayu di Nusantara. Selepas 1875, Selompret Melajoe mengusung jargon "Soerat Kabar Basa Melajoe." Beritanya berkisar pada, kabar lelang, kabar kiriman, pergantian pangreh praja, kebijakan perundangan pemerintah, informasi dari departemen militer dan civil, berita kawat dai berbagai daerah, iklan (yang berisi lotere uang), dan kolom "Hikayat" yang berisi hikayat terjemahan. "Kabar Kiriman" adalah wadah bagi pembaca dari berbagai kalangan untuk berkeluh kesah atas kesulitan mereka di daerah. Beragamnya bonus-bonus halaman ini membuat oplahnya meningkat mencapai 400-600 eksemplar. Tahun 1881 Selompret Melajoe terbit tiap Rabu dan Sabtu lalu mengubah jargon menjadi "Soerat Kabar dan Advertentie." Mulai 1891, W.N.J.G. Claasz menjadi redakturnya (digantikan J.P.P. Halkema tahun 1902) dan surat kabar ini pun terbit setiap Selasa, Kamis, Sabtu dengan 4 lembar setiap terbit. Pergerakan nasionalisme membuat pembaca koran bisnis berkurang, Selompret Melajoe ikut terkena imbasnya yang membuat tahun 1920 menjadi akhir terbitnya. (in)
