| - La literatura experimental és un nom genèric que agrupa diverses pràctiques contemporànies de la literatura, siguin en forma de relat, novel·la o poesia, que posen l'èmfasi formal en la innovació, especialment pel que fa a la tècnica literària. El mot novel·la experimental aparegué per primer cop en els escrits teòrics d'Émile Zola, que pretenia realitzar una forma de literatura sociològica que posés en pràctica el mètode científic del naturalisme. L'obra de Zola que recopila els seus escrits es titula , de 1880. Avui en dia, si més no, el terme s'empra per oposició al realisme, i per a definir una literatura guiada pel formalisme, la imaginació i les formes no tradicionals de relat. (ca)
- Experimental literature is a genre that is, according to Warren Motte in his essay "Experimental Writing, Experimental Reading", "difficult to define with any sort of precision." He says the "writing is often invoked in an "offhand manner" and the focus is on "form rather than content." It can be in written form of prose narrative or poetry, but the text may be set on the page in differing configurations than that of normal prose paragraphs or in the classical stanza form of verse. It may also be entwined with images of a real or abstract nature, with the use of art or photography. Furthermore, while experimental literature was traditionally handwritten on paper or vellum, the digital age has seen an exponential leaning to the use of digital computer technologies. (en)

- Experimentelle Literatur bedeutet einerseits einen Bruch mit herkömmlichen Formen, andererseits eine höhere Gewichtung der Form, die als prägendes Element verstanden wird. Nicht der Inhalt wird der Form übergeordnet, sondern diese beiden Kategorien werden als ebenbürtig und notwendig miteinander verschränkt betrachtet. Als früher Klassiker der Experimentellen Literatur gilt der Roman Leben und Ansichten von Tristram Shandy, Gentleman von Laurence Sterne. Die Wiener Gruppe ist auch in dieser Sparte anzusiedeln. Ein Exponent wie Gerhard Rühm ist auch immer noch schreibend und auftretend aktiv. (de)
