William Wotton (13 August 1666 – 13 February 1727) was an English theologian, classical scholar and linguist. He is chiefly remembered for his remarkable abilities in learning languages and for his involvement in the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns. In Wales he is remembered as the collector and first translator of the ancient Welsh laws.

Miembro del St John's College de la Universidad de Cambridge y capellán del conde de Nottingham. Es recordado por haber tomado parte en la querella entre Antiguos y Modernos, en favor de los últimos, polemizando con Sir William Temple. Lleno de deudas y perseguido por sus acreedores, se fugó a Gales, donde bajo nombre falso, William Edwards, aprendió la lengua del país y estudió sus leyes medievales, que llegó a publicar.
