- William Lewis Sharkey (July 12, 1798 – March 30, 1873) was an American judge and politician from Mississippi. A staunch Unionist during the Civil War, he opposed the 1861 secession of Mississippi. After the end of the Civil War, President Andrew Johnson appointed Sharkey as provisional governor of Mississippi in 1865. A county in Mississippi is named after Sharkey. (en)

Han var Mississippis guvernör från juni till oktober 1865. Före amerikanska inbördeskriget var han whig och som guvernör hörde han inte till något parti. Sharkey hade en framgångsrik advokatpraktik i Vicksburg och tjänstgjorde senare som domare. Sharkey tjänstgjorde som USA:s konsul i Havanna 1851–1853. Sharkey efterträdde 1865 Charles Clark som Mississippis guvernör och efterträddes senare samma år av Benjamin G. Humphreys. (sv)
