Historique Le CHU de Treichville a ouvert ses portes en 1938 en tant qu’hôpital annexe à l’hôpital central du Plateau, premier hôpital de Côte d’Ivoire. Il acquiert son autonomie financière et administrative par rapport à l’hôpital central en 1953. Avec l’ouverture d’une école de médecine, il devient le Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Provisoire d’Abidjan en 1966. Et en 1970 avec la création du Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Cocody et la faculté de médecine d’Abidjan, il devient le Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire d’Abidjan. Le CHU de Treichville est un établissement à caractère industriel et commercial (EPIC) depuis 1984. Il est soumis à deux tutelles :
* La tutelle administrative et technique du Ministre chargé de la Santé Publique ;
* La tutelle économique et financière du Ministre chargé de l’Economie et des Finances. Fonctionnement Les attributions, l’organisation et le fonctionnement du CHU sont déterminés par le décret N° 84-763 du 06 juin 1984. Le CHU de Treichville comporte au total 32 services, dont 25 services médicaux et 07 services médico-techniques. Le Centre hospitalier universitaire de Treichville a notamment pour missions de dispenser des soins d’urgence, de proposer des examens de diagnostic ainsi que des consultations et des traitements. Il offre en outre des possibilités d'hospitalisation aux malades. Diverses initiatives de développement d'actions de médecine préventive sont également visées par cette formation qui participe à Abidjan avec les CHU de Cocody et de Yopougon à l’enseignement universitaire et post-universitaire de type médical mais aussi, à la formation pharmaceutique, odontologique et paramédicale. Le CHU de Treichville reste en outre, un centre de recherche médicale, pharmaceutique, odontologique et paramédicale. L'établissement fait cependant face à de très graves problèmes sanitaires, d'insalubrité, de manque de moyens et d'entretien des équipements et des locaux. Le CHU souffre d'un manque de personnel médical et d'un budget largement insuffisant. (fr)

Various initiatives for the development of preventive medicine actions are also targeted by this training which not only participates in Abidjan with Cocody and Yopougon university hospitals in postgraduate medical education but also in pharmaceutical, dental/dental education and paramedic. The CHU Treichville remains in addition, a center for medical, pharmaceutical and dental research. However, the facility faces very serious health problems, insalubrity, and lack of means and maintenance of equipment and the premises. The CHU suffers from a lack of medical staff and a largely insufficient budget. (en)
