Ukigumo (Japanese: 浮雲, lit. "Drifting Cloud") is an 1887 Japanese novel by Shimei Futabatei. Published in three parts (with the last one in serialised form) between June 1887 and August 1889, it is usually being referred to as the first modern Japanese novel.
