The siege of Damietta occurred in 1249 and was part of the Seventh Crusade. Louis IX of France landed at Damietta in 1249. Egypt would, Louis thought, provide a base from which to attack Jerusalem, and its wealth and supply of grain would keep the crusaders fed and equipped.

We wrześniu 1248 armia krzyżowa pod dowództwem króla Ludwika IX zaczęła zbierać się w Limassol, skąd miała wypłynąć do Egiptu. Pobyt na Cyprze przeciągnął się do maja 1249, a tuż przed wypłynięciem sztorm uszkodził wiele okrętów i rozproszył flotę. Mimo to, 30 maja część armii pod dowództwem króla wyruszyła na krucjatę. Pierwsze okręty dopłynęły do Damietty 4 czerwca. (pl) Осада Дамьетты (5—6 июня 1249 года) — часть Седьмого крестового похода. Людовик IX планировал использовать богатую зерном Дамьетту как базу для наступления на Иерусалим. 13 мая 1249 г. армия крестоносцев под командованием короля Людовика IX собралась в Лимасоле, откуда должна была отплыть к Египту. Флот состоял из примерно 120 транспортных кораблей и множества мелких судов. Ещё до отъезда штормом были повреждены многие корабли и рассеян флот. Несмотря на это, 30 мая часть армии под командованием короля приступила к крестовому походу. К Дамьетте флот прибыл 4 июня. (ru)
