Philip Tagg (born 1944 in Oundle, Northamptonshire, UK) is a British musicologist, writer and educator. He is co-founder of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM) and author of several influential books on popular music and music semiotics.

È quindi stato ricercatore di Musicologia presso il Consiglio Svedese delle Ricerche nelle Scienze umane e Sociali dal 1985 al 1991. Infine è stato Lettore in Musica all'Università di Liverpool dal 1993 al 2002, e professore di Musicologia all'Università di Montréal dal 2002 al 2009.
