La pel·lícula, molt fidel al llibre, descriu el dur i desafortunat destí del jove Joe (Johnny) Bonham, de 21 anys, que s'allista voluntari a la Primera Guerra Mundial per sortir-ne absolutament mutilat. - Johnny Got His Gun is een anti-oorlogsfilm uit 1971 geregisseerd door Dalton Trumbo. Het verhaal is gebaseerd op het gelijknamige boek van Trumbo. Bij het verschijnen was de film geen succes. Toen de Amerikaanse metalband Metallica in 1989 de single One uitbracht waarbij beelden uit deze film werden gebruikt, verkreeg de film een cultstatus.
