Jean Auguste Hippolyte Houzeau de Lehaie (6 March 1867 - 4 September 1959) was a Belgian biologist and horticulturist who devoted his career to the botany of bamboo species and the introduction of many into European gardening practice through his property, L'Hermitage, near Mons in the Belgian province of Hainaut. He was also a student of the temperate terrestrial orchids of Belgium and France. The standard author abbreviation J.Houz. is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name.

| - Jean Houzeau de Lehaie ( 1867 - 1959), fue un biólogo, botánico, pintor, historiador belga que consagró su vida al estudio de los bambúes, logrando la introducción de nuevas especies venidas esencialmente del Japón, de China, India, y su aclimatación en Bélgica dentro de su propiedad de Ermitage. Fue creador de una revista especializada, publicado por autores (boletín periódico Le Bambou entre 1906 y 1908), durante toda su vida publicó libremente taxones de bambúes rústicos y tropicales en Europa hasta la frontera climática de Noruega y en África con una perspectiva agronómica. También contribuyó igualmente en los estudios de orquídeas principalmente en Bélgica y en Francia. Sus estudios prehistóricos incluyeron las minas neolíticas de sílex de Spiennes (cerca de Mons). Viajero infatigable por toda Europa, a sus 66 y 67 años, realizó dos expediciones etnográficas al África Occidental Francesa (AOF). Entre 1945 y 1947, editó, con fondos propios, el semanario La Solidarité paysanne defendiendo la cuestión campesina como objetivo. (es)

An inveterate traveler, he was the patron and editor of a journal devoted to bamboo, Le Bambou, which he published in 1906 to 1908. Over many decades he freely disseminated exotic bamboos to public and private gardens, testing them for hardiness in northern Europe. His archaeological interests were stimulated by the Neolithic flint mines of Spiennes, near Mons. From 1945 to 1947 he edited and published the journal La Solidarité paysanne, defending the plight of the traditional modern European farmer. Créateur d'une revue spécialisée éditée à compte d'auteur (bulletin périodique Le Bambou entre 1906 et 1908), tout au long de sa vie il a diffusé gratuitement de nombreux taxons de bambous rustiques et tropicaux en Europe jusqu'à la limite climatique de la Norvège puis en Afrique dans une perspective agronomique. Il a contribué également à l'étude des orchidées principalement en Belgique et en France. Ses études préhistoriques portent notamment sur les Minières néolithiques de silex de Spiennes (près de Mons). Voyageur infatigable à travers toute l'Europe, à 66 ans et 67 ans il fera deux expéditions ethnographiques en AOF.
