- O esturjão-do-golfo-do-méxico (Acipenser oxyrhynchus desotoi) é uma subespécie de esturjão do gênero Acipenser que vive no Golfo do México e em alguns rios que nele desaguam. O esturjão-do-golfo-do-méxico foi identificado pela primeira vez como uma subespécie distinta em 1955. O esturjão-do-golfo-do-méxico é considerado uma subespécie ameaçada desde 1991, segundo a Lei de Espécies em Perigo dos Estados Unidos da América. O seu habitat original seria a área que vai do Rio Suwannee, na costa oeste da Flórida, até o Rio Mississípi, incluindo as águas marítimas das regiões central e oriental do Golfo do México. - The Gulf sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus desotoi) is a subspecies of sturgeon that lives in the Gulf of Mexico and some rivers draining into it. The Gulf sturgeon was first recognized as a separate subspecies in 1955. The nominate subspecies is the Atlantic sturgeon, A. o. oxyrinchus. The Gulf sturgeon is listed as threatened under the United States Endangered Species Act, having been listed in 1991. Critical habitat, reflecting the current range of the subspecies, has been designated (see map). The historical range is thought to have been from the Suwannee River on the western coast of Florida to the Mississippi River, and marine waters of the central and eastern portions of the Gulf of Mexico.
