- George Brown (* 29. November 1818 in Alloa, Schottland; † 9. Mai 1880 in Toronto) war ein kanadischer Politiker, Verleger und Journalist. Brown gründete 1844 die Zeitung The Globe, die heute unter dem Namen The Globe and Mail die zweitgrößte Tageszeitung des Landes ist. Der einflussreiche Abolitionist war 1857 Gründer der Vorläufer der Liberalen Partei Kanadas und der Ontario Liberal Party. Vierzehn Jahre lang war Brown Unterhausabgeordneter in der Provinz Kanada, 1858 amtierte er während vier Tagen als Premierminister. Als einer der Väter der Konföderation gehört er zu den Wegbereitern des 1867 gegründeten kanadischen Bundesstaates. - George Brown (November 29, 1818 – May 9, 1880) was a British-Canadian journalist, politician and one of the Fathers of Confederation; attended the Charlottetown (September 1864) and Quebec (October 1864) conferences. A noted Reform politician, he is best known as the founder and editor of the Toronto Globe, Canada's most influential newspaper at the time, and his leadership in the founding of the Liberal Party in 1867. He was an articulate champion of the grievances and anger of Upper Canada (Ontario). He played a major role in securing national unity. His career in active politics faltered after 1865, but he remained a powerful spokesman for the Liberal Party. He promoted westward expansion and opposed the policies of Conservative Prime Minister John A. Macdonald. (en)

- George Brown (29 novembre 1818 - 9 mai 1880) était un homme politique et journaliste canadien. Né en Écosse, Il fonda le Toronto Globe (maintenant le Globe and Mail) et fut un politicien réformiste. Il appuyait la confédération canadienne et fut un des pères de la Confédération, au même titre que Sir John A. Macdonald et George-Étienne Cartier. Malgré les nombreux griefs que les Canadiens Français entretenaient envers l'Union, Brown croyait que la Confédération ne visait pas à trouver une solution aux conquis au Bas-Canada, l'actuel Québec, mais plutôt aux problèmes dont se plaignent les conquérants du Haut-Canada des Canadiens anglais face à Londres et aux conquis. - George Brown (ur. 29 listopada 1818, zm. 9 maja 1880) – kanadyjski polityk liberalny, jeden z Ojców Konfederacji. Przybył do Kanady ze Szkocji w 1843. Rok później założył liberalne pismo The Globe. Wkrótce też włączył się w reformatorski ruch polityczny. Był założycielem partii politycznej Clear Grit, która stała się zalążkiem Liberalnej Partii Kanady. Był zwolennikiem proporcjonalnego cenzusu wyborczego i aneksji Terytoriów Północno-Zachodnich bez rekompensaty. W 1864 wobec przedłużającego się kryzysu parlamentarnego zaproponował swym politycznym oponentom Johnowi Macdonaldowi i George-Étienne Cartierowi stworzenie wielkiej koalicji, która doprowadziła do utworzenia Konfederacji Kanady. - George Brown (Alloa, 29 de novembro de 1818 – Toronto, 9 de maio de 1880) foi um jornalista, editor e político canadense, considerado um dos Pais da Confederação do Canadá. Brown foi o fundador e editor do jornal The Globe, um dos periódicos mais influentes no Canadá na época. Um ex-empregado The Globe atirou-lhe em março de 1880 no escritório do jornal, acertando-o em sua perna. A ferida, aparentemente menor, posteriormente gangrenou e Brown morreu sete semanas depois.
