- Francis Ledwidge (19 août 1887 à Slane, County Meath - 31 juillet 1917 à Boezinge) est un poète de guerre irlandais, du comté de Meath. Parfois surnommé le « poète des merles », il est tué au combat le premier jour de la bataille de Passchendaele durant la Première Guerre mondiale. Il est enterré à l' (en), le cimetière militaire de Boezinge ainsi que le poète gallois Hedd Wyn tué le même jour au cours de la même bataille. (fr)

- Francis Ledwidge (Slane, 19 augustus 1887 - Boezinge, 31 juli 1917) was een Iers nationalist en Engelstalig dichter. Als autodidact had hij het, in zijn dichtkunst, over de natuur en het Ierse landschap. Ledwidge werd geboren in een arm gezin en werkte als boerenknecht, mijnwerker en als stratenmaker. Alhoewel aangetrokken tot het Ierse zelfbewustzijn verkoos hij toch om dienst te nemen in het Engelse leger. Hij werd eerst uitgestuurd naar Turkije om daar uitgeput in de hospitalen van Saloniki en Caïro te belanden. Nadien kwam zijn eerste bundel Songs of the Fields uit. (nl)

From Slane, County Meath, and sometimes known as the "poet of the blackbirds", he was later also known as a First World War war poet. He befriended the established writer Lord Dunsany, who helped with publication of his works. He was killed in action at Ypres in 1917. (en)
