The Somonyng of Everyman (The Summoning of Everyman), usually referred to simply as Everyman, is a late 15th-century morality play. Like John Bunyan's 1678 Christian novel The Pilgrim's Progress, Everyman uses allegorical characters to examine the question of Christian salvation and what Man must do to attain it.

Dans cette œuvre, Everyman (« Tout-homme ») est confronté au compte-rendu de ses bonnes et mauvaises actions, qu'il doit tenter d'améliorer pour accéder au salut. Di autore anonimo, si tratta di un dramma religioso probabilmente derivato da un altro lavoro, Elckerlijc, di origine fiamminga. Nel testo, fortemente allegorico, è presente la personificazione delle Virtù e dei Vizi in perenne contrasto tra loro; elemento, questo, tipico del teatro medievale, che traeva spesso spunto da argomenti di ambito religioso. Di tradizione orale, l'opera verrà trascritta solo alla fine del XV secolo. (it) Envar (holländska Elckerlijc, engelska Everyman), även Spelet om Envar, är ett allegoriskt drama från England eller möjligen Holland som troligtvis skrevs på 1400-talet. De tidigaste kända trycken är från 1520-talet. Det handlar om moralfrågor, där karaktärerna tidstypiskt är personifierade dygder och laster. Holländaren Macropedius publicerade versionen Hecastus på latin 1539. (sv)
