| - أكلة الموتى (بالإنجليزية: Eaters of the Dead) رواية علمية كتبها في عام 1976 الرواي الأمريكي مايكل كرايتون. تدور أحداث هذه القصة في -القرن العاشر - تتناول مخطوطة بطل الرواية المسلم العربي أحمد بن فضلان الذي يسافر في معية مجموعة من الفايكنج إلى موطنهم. يفسر كرشتون في التذييل ان الكتاب يستند إلى مصدرين اثنين. الفصول الثلاثة الأولى ما هي إلا إعادة سرد لشخصية أحمد بن فضلان حسب ما دون في مخطوطته الاصلية ومجريات أحداث رحلته إلى الشمال وتجاربه مع الفايكنج، وأما ما تبقى من الرواية فيستند إلى قصة البيولف. - Devoradores de cadáveres (1976) (título original: Eaters of the Dead) es una novela del autor estadounidense Michael Crichton, la cual nace como un ejercicio fantástico donde el escritor plantea un posible origen real del mito de Beowulf, relatado en el poema de la tradición británica que lleva el mismo nombre. Para simular este presunto origen histórico de los sucesos relatados en el poema, Crichton atribuye la obra a un personaje histórico, el cronista árabe Ibn Fadlan, quien protagoniza el relato y la vez cumple el rol de narrador de sus sucesos. En esta obra también se especula sobre la supervivencia del Hombre de Neanderthal (Homo neanderthalensis) y su convivencia con el humano moderno hasta periodos históricos recientes. (es)

- Wendolové neboli také Pojídači mrtvých jsou fiktivní nepřátelský kmen ve filmu Vikingové (13th Warrior) a románu od Michaela Crichtona. Představují prehistorickou kulturu, či dokonce kmen dávno vyhynulých homo neanderthalensis. Je možné, že oblasti, které nejsou podnebně vhodné pro Homo sapiens (například neobydlené mrazivé lesy Skandinávie) mohly být obydleny populací neandrtálců dávno po jejich předpokládaném vyhynutí, až do doby, kdy Ahmad ibn Fadlān napsal své spisy. Wendolové mohou představovat i populaci homo sapiens sapiens, a to na základě přítomnosti prehistorické sošky Willendorfské Venuše. (cs)

Oryginalny angielski tytuł powieści to Eaters of the Dead: The Manuscript of Ibn Fadlan Relating His Experiences with the Northmen in AD 922. W późniejszym czasie został on przemianowany na The 13th Warrior, co miało być jawnym nawiązaniem do ekranizacji o tym samym tytule. Na podstawie książki powstała ekranizacja z Antonio Banderasem w roli głównej. (pl)
